Amid a serious injury crisis at the back and a few poor goals conceded in the high-profile losses to PSG and Real Madrid last week, Barcelona have decided to go into the market and search for a top-level center-back in the January transfer window.
Barça have significant funds available after their failed pursuit of Julián Álvarez, and according to Mundo Deportivo the club have identified four players as their main targets for the winter.
Josko Gvardiol is the dream signing, but he just signed a new
contract and would likely only consider leaving Manchester City if the Sky Blues are relegated from the Premier League as punishment for their guilty verdict over Financial Fair Play breaches.
Alessandro Bastoni is the other favorite target and Barça were already interested in his signing this year, but the Catalans believe Inter Milan would not be keen to part ways with their best defender in January.
The two more feasible options are Manchester United’s Lisandro Martínez, who is out of contract next summer and has been very critical of his current club’s hierarchy recently, and Natan of Real Betis, who has been on Barça’s list for quite a while now.
Finn Jeltsch of Stuttgart has also been linked and seems to be Hansi Flick’s favorite option, and it appears more and more likely that Barça will make a serious push to sign a center-back this winter.
So today’s Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day is:
Which ‘top center-back’ should Barcelona look to sign in January?
