Bayern Munich was on the backfoot for the most part of the 2-2 draw with Augsburg. Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown rescued a point for the Rekordmeister after Manuel Neuer gifted Augsburg their two goals. Luis Díaz actually opened the scoring, but his goal was ruled out for an offside player in the build-up, a goal that former Bundesliga referee Patrick Ittrich said should have stood.
“[The offside position] was completely irrelevant in this case,” Ittrich said on Sky Germany (as captured by X
account @iMiaSanMia). “There was an offside situation, and then the player essentially cleared the ball completely unchallenged. That means the situation was over, and then there was a new situation. That’s a classic next play situation, and therefore the goal should have stood in my opinion. I think it’s a very, very controversial decision.”
Bayern played far from their best, but did just enough (well, more than enough) to get at least a draw from a seemingly hopeless position. With big Champions League matches on the horizon, Vincent Kompany must make changes.
