I am posting this one not because I know the date, because I don’t.
It’s impossible to figure out the date this photo was taken because there aren’t enough clues. I know, I know, usually I can find a clue that
isn’t totally obvious, but this time… nope.
All we know is this: The photo was taken at Wrigley Field, and it’s Ernie Banks surrounded by a group of fans. We do know the approximate date, because the Baseball Digest shown is the June 1969 edition, which had Banks on the cover — obviously the kid’s dad wanted it signed. So sometime in June or July 1969, I’d think.
It’s a cloudy day — maybe that would eliminate some dates, but likely not enough for us to nail down the exact date.
What I’d really like to know is this: Who’s the man standing on the field next to Banks? Could he be related to the guy with the small child? He’s almost certainly someone who would have worked in the Cubs front office at the time.
If you know who this is, or even have any ideas, let us know.
