The Cowboys and the Saints tried to have a joint practice. Player fights marred the day and prevented a real scrimmage rhythm to develop.
The Dallas Cowboys have become the destination many superstars want to go to because of their notoriety. Von Miller chose Dallas for different reasons.

Multiple brawls mar Saints-Cowboys joint practice session – Katherine Terrell, ESPN
The Cowboys and Saints ended up spending as much time fighting as practicing on Tuesday.
Saints center Erik McCoy tossed a helmet in one brawl, and in another, his
own helmet was lost before he and Cowboys outside linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku threw punches. Ezeiruaku was thrown out of practice afterward for the second time this offseason. He threw a punch earlier in training camp and was sent to the locker room. He and Schottenheimer had a conversation after that dustup, and the coach said he will have another one with him.
Brian Schottenheimer ‘disappointed’ with ‘chippy’ Cowboys-Saints joint practice – Tommy Yarrish, DallasCowboys.com
The Cowboys head coach wasn’t always pleased with the outcome of the joint practice.
“A little chippy,” Schottenheimer said. “Not the way we like to do business. Got to be better, but I’ve got to look at the film. We’re certainly not going to take s— from anybody, but again, it was chippy on both sides. Like I’ve said, I want our guys to play on the edge without going over the edge. One guy sounds like he might’ve thrown a punch, and that’s why he left practice early.”

A relationship that felt like a long time coming—Von Miller wearing the star on his helmet.
Miller sat down with Prescott and the two struck up a conversation, where Miller gave his perspective on the team Dallas had assembled ahead of the 2026 season.
“Hey man, it’s about time, Dak,” Miller told him. “It’s about time. You’ve got to break through with one of these teams, you’ve got to break through one of these years. I think this year you’ll be able to do it. You’ve got everybody to do it.”
Two areas Brian Schottenheimer wants the Cowboys to improve against Cardinals – Tommy Yarrish, DallasCowboys.com
Despite the win against the Seattle Seahawks, the standard fell short in a few areas for Brian Schottenheimer.
“Our mantra is get back to basics,” Schottenheimer said.”Got to pay more attention to detail. Very, very disappointed in how we lost contain. Very disappointed in how we gave up kick side leverage. And the ball’s supposed to be kept on your right shoulder? Keep it on your right shoulder. The ball’s supposed to be on your left shoulder? Keep it on your left shoulder.”
Predicting Cowboys’ OLB depth chart after Von Miller addition – Brian Martin, Blogging the Boys
How does the addition of Von Miller shake up the OLB room?
The guess here is the Dallas Cowboys will carry six OLBs on the active 53-man roster this season with a couple more on the practice squad to be called up when/if needed. As things stand right now, we have Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku as the starter’s with Malachi Lawrence and now Von Miller as the primary backups. That leaves two spots up for grabs.
Outside the top four, we have James Houston securing a roster spot as the fifth OLB on the depth chart right now.
John Niland’s ‘triumphant’ life: Highs, lows and the ex-Cowboy’s fulfilling final chapter – Kevin Sherrington, Dallas Morning News
The Cowboys community mourns the loss of John Niland, who passed away at 82 over the weekend.
Of all the legendary linemen in all of the Cowboys’ hallowed history, only three drew more first-team All-Pro or Pro Bowl honors than John Niland. Fifth pick of the ‘66 draft out of Iowa. Left guard on the Cowboys’ first Super Bowl champion. From left to right in front of Roger Staubach in that Super Bowl season it was Ralph Neely, Niland, Dave Manders, Blaine Nye and Rayfield Wright, the first great offensive line in the organization’s long history of such.
