FC Bayern Munich have announced that they have recalled Edna Imade from her loan at Real Sociedad six months early. Imade was signed by Bayern this summer, before being loaned out to the Spanish side immediately.
The deal was originally to last until July 2026, but she will return to Munich ahead of schedule. The news comes on the heels of Bayern striker, Lea Schüller transferring to Manchester United.
Bianca Rech, director of women’s football at Bayern, cited her development at Sociedad as the main reason for the early recall. Rech, “Edna has developed very well over the past few months. After a strong first half-season in Spain, we made the decision with her to end her loan spell ahead of schedule and bring her back to Munich now. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Real Sociedad for their trust and cooperation. We want to continue to support Edna’s positive development and are delighted that she’s now rejoining us. With her open-mindedness and ambition, we’re convinced she’ll bring us a lot of joy and help us on the pitch in the future.”
Rech was born to Nigerian parents who immigrated to Spain shortly after she was born. She played for numerous Spanish clubs at many levels during her youth. She made it to the top flight in 2023 where she played until the sign-and-loan this summer. With Real Sociedad she had eight goals in eleven league matches. She was also called into the Spanish national team for her first two caps last month — the home and home Nations League Final against Germany.
As she begins her new chapter with FC Bayern, Imade has a lot that she is looking forward to. “I’m very happy to already be part of FC Bayern. I can’t wait to get started, get to know my new teammates and develop both in personal and sporting terms. I’ve gained valuable experience over the past few months and am now proud to be able to play for this great club. My goal is to settle in quickly, support the team as best I can and celebrate successes with my teammates. I’m particularly looking forward to playing in the Champions League and perhaps one day playing at the Allianz Arena – that’s always been a big dream of mine.”
Will Imade be able to fill the hole that Schüller’s transfer has left in Bayern’s roster? Let us know your thoughts on these moves.
