Manchester City are advancing in their pursuit and seemingly inevitable signing of Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento ahead of the summer transfer window.
Football Insider’s Ciaran Morrison reported that City are “closing in” on the signing of Livramento, citing comments from former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness.
It’s well known that right-back is a position that needs some reinforcements within Manchester City’s squad and one that certainly is in Pep Guardiola’s mind for a short-term
fix.
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, as quoted in Morrison’s report, Wyness suggested that conversations for a deal are already progressing between both clubs.
“Yes, very much so. I think that’s pretty much nailed on as far as I’m aware,” Wyness said. “I heard from somebody the other day. I talked to an agent who said that it’s going to be happening.”
Wyness went as far as naming the potential transfer fee.
“They did expect that sort of big number around the £70m mark, which is a big number, as we say, breaking the record,” Wyness said. “But I think he’s the right one for City. I think he’s a talented player, and it helps Newcastle fill the coffers.”
No agreement has been finalized, and all Gerodies would love to keep Tino around forever, but I guess at least the reported valuation would represent a significant return for Newcastle if the sale goes through at that figure.
Livramento, 23, has impressed since arriving at St James’ Park and has already earned England’s senior-team callups with a presence in the World Cup only on the line because of his injury issues.
Newcastle have not publicly indicated a willingness to sell, though never-disappearing financial considerations, as well as the team’s highly unlikely qualification for any European competition next season, could decide Livramento’s future away from Tyneside.
