Aladji Bamba’s first months at Newcastle United have seen him get far fewer opportunities than expected, with the £30 million summer signing playing only 27 minutes of Premier League football so far.
On Tuesday, The Athletic’s Chris Waugh reported that loaning him out in January is something Newcastle should consider if the 20-year-old remains unable to earn meaningful minutes under Matthias Jaissle.
“If Bamba cannot get any game time in the Carabao Cup, then it would make sense for him to get minutes
out on loan,” Waugh wrote.
Jaissle admitted before the game against Everton that Bamba has found the physical adjustment to Premier League football more difficult than initially expected, although the head coach believes the midfielder is beginning to adapt to the British game.
On top of that, Newcastle’s hierarchy is reportedly not making any immediate judgments on Bamba and still expects his role could grow as the season progresses. However, Waugh noted that sporting director Ross Wilson and Jaissle will need to make a collective call before January.
“It does feel like Newcastle have too many midfielders to try to fit into this 4-2-3-1 system, and Bamba is currently the obvious candidate to send out on loan,” Waugh wrote.
