Barcelona have issued a statement on Frenkie de Jong’s knee injury and confirmed the Dutchman is set for a spell on the sidelines.
De Jong returned from World Cup 2026 with the problem and has since undergone tests to determine the severity of the problem.
Here’s Barcelona’s official statement:
“The tests carried out on first-team player Frenkie de Jong have determined that he is suffering from a tear in the medial collateral ligament of his right knee.
“It has been agreed that the player will continue
under treatment and medical monitoring, pending his progress over the coming weeks.”
Barcelona have stopped short of announcing how much time De Jong will miss, although there’s been speculation that he will be out for around four months.
The Netherlands international will therefore miss the start of the new La Liga season and it’s not completely clear yet when he will return.
