The Cleveland Browns made a franchise-altering move when they decided to trade Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. Garrett is a future Hall of Famer and has been the best defender on the team since he was drafted in 2017. Given the current state of the roster, the team felt this was the right time to make the move, though it was not a decision made lightly.
In return for Garrett, the Browns received edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round
pick. For Cleveland, acquiring a 25-year-old talent like Verse adds significant value to the return package. He was the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year and has two Pro Bowl selections in his first two seasons. He very well may have a long and successful career with the Browns and has the opportunity to pick up where Garrett left off.
The three picks that Cleveland received could be a bit underwhelming if the Rams have a really successful season this year. The first-round pick may be in the late first round, which would be much less enticing.
Overall, it felt like now was the time for the team to make this decision. While the pick selection is underwhelming, it is exciting to get a young, already established player in this league. The true result of this trade won’t be known until years down the road, but there are certainly things to be excited about in the near future.
