It’s been almost a full month since Chelsea Women last took the ground at Kingsmeadow to play in front of the home crowd. Today we’re finally back at a home we clearly miss so dearly, to host Liverpool in the Women’s Super League.
Some of us have that absolute demolition of Liverpool still in mind. Best to not think too much on it as that team already looks different from the one we brushed aside so effortlessly two months ago.

Chelsea team news: A 2-0 win over a rising Tottenham team is nothing to scoff at. However given how Hannah Hampton and the defensive line had to work to make that happen, it’s hard not to see the performance as a sign we’re still reeling from the back to back losses to major domestic rivals in the Women’s Super League.
There’s no way out of this but shaking it off with more wins. To keep us on the right track head coach Sonia Bompastor won’t be able to count on captain Millie Bright who got off the pitch late in the second half with a knock. Wieke Kaptein and Keira Walsh, the latter also substituted in our game against Spurs due to injury, are available for today’s match.
The worse bit of news is Catarina Macario. The USWNT forward who hasn’t stepped on the pitch since early December is still in recovery, and still being assessed to see if she can play before the end of the season.
Liverpool team news: Since that 9-1 thrashing we gave the Reds back in December in the League Cup their lives changed for the better. They’re coming off a 4-1 win over Aston Villa last weekend, which gave them a one-point lead over a free falling Leicester team that replaced them in the relegation spot.
Women’s Super League manager of the month, Gareth Taylor, will be missing midfielder Sofie Lundgaard today and for the remainder of the season as she’s had surgery for a shin injury. Meanwhile forward Anna Josendal is on path to recovery, but not yet ready to take us on at Kingsmeadow.
Previously: Chelsea confirm their unbeaten domestic season, with Aggie Beever-Jones giving us a 1-0 lead in extra time just in case.
