Columbus Clippers (72-61) – AAA

The Columbus Clippers took down the Iowa Cubs with seven runs on nine hits. Rorik Maltrud improved to 7-1 on the season, earning a quality start. In his 7.0 innings of work, Maltrud allowed one run on two hits, three walks, and struck out six. Steven Pérez earned his fourth hold of the season with two innings of scoreless ball. He did not allow a baserunner and struck out four. Connor Brogdon closed it out with a scoreless inning for the Clippers.
The Columbus offense kicked
off in the bottom of the third. Milan Tolentino drew a lead off walk. Dayan Frias smacked the second pitch over the wall in left field to give Columbus the two-run lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Milan Tolentino tripled on a fly ball to put himself in easy scoring position. Tyresse Turner hit a grounder single to second to score Tolentino. Turner stole second, putting himself in scoring position for Blake Perkins to bring him home on an RBI single to center. Kyle Manzardo lead off the bottom of the eighth. Austin Wynns and Kody Huff hit back-to-back walks to load the bases. Alfonsin Rosario doulbed on a grounder to score two and Milan Tolentino followed up with a RBI single to give Columbus the six run lead.
Akron RubberDucks (64-63) – AA
Game 1: RIC 1 – AKR 3

Franklin Gómez earned his first win with the RubberDucks in the Game 1 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Gómez went 5.0 innings in the seven inning game. He threw a scoreless outing, allowing three hits and two walks. Sean Matson earned his second save with his 2.0 inning outing. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk.
Nolan Schubart did it again for Akron. In the bottom of the first Ryan Cesarini hit a lead off single. With one out, Jace LaViolette drew a walk. Nolan Schubart hit his thirteenth homer with Akron to left center, putting Akron up 3-0.
Game 2: RIC 3 – AKR 4

Akron took Game 2 into extras and walked it off in the eighth inning. Caden Favors started the game, pitching through the fifth inning. Favors allowed two runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Michael Kennedy threw two innings of scoreless ball, also striking out four. Cam Walty earned his first win of the season with Akron in the ninth inning. One run was allowed in the eighth, the ghost runner. Walty allowed one hit and struck out one.
The RubberDucks tied it up early in the first inning on a Jace LaViolette homer, but surrendered the lead again in the second inning. Down by one, Maick Collado scored Alex Mooney from third on a sac fly to tie it up.
Nolan Schubart did it AGAIN in the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Cesarini drew a walk and reached second on a wild pitch. Schubart slapped a double to left to score two and walk it off.
Lake County Captains (69-57) – High A
Game 1: GL 9 – LC 0

Game 1 did not fare well for the Captains. Jackson Humphries fell to 1-7 on the season, only giving the Caps 4.0 innings of work. Humphries gave up five earned runs on three hits and two walks, striking out seven. Jogly García threw an inning, giving up an additional four runs to the Loons on two hits and three walks. Luke Fernandez pitched the final two frames, scoreless, allowed three walks and struck out three.
Lake County had four baserunners. Tommy Hawke and Juneiker Caceres both got hits while Tyler Howard and Victor Izturis reached on walks.
Game 2: GL 4 – LC 5

Game 2 went much better for LC. Will McCausland threw 5.0 innings of work. He gave up two runs on three hits and one walk. McCausland struck out nine batters. Zane Petty went two scoreless, allowing three walks, and striking out four. Donovan Zsak improved to 6-0 in his 2.0 innings of work. Zsak allowed two runs, neither earned on two hits and a walk. He struck out three. Both unearned runs came on in the top of the ninth. Zsak threw a wild pitch to allow the ghost runner to reach third and eventually score. Zsak balked to score the other unearned run.
Lake County took an early lead in the bottom of the third. Tommy Hawke hit a single then scored on a triple from Dauri Fernández. Welbyn Francisca drew another walk. Fernández scored on a sac fly from Anthony Martinez. The Loons and Captains took it into the ninth. In the top of the ninth, the Loons took another lead, but the Caps were ready to respond. Cannon Peebles drew a lead off walk with the ghost runner on. José Pirela doubled to left to score the ghost runner and move Peebles to third. Juan Benjamin walked it off with a double on a sharp line to right to score two and give the Caps the win.
Hill City Howlers (55-74) – Single A
HC 4 – SAL 11

The Salem RidgeYaks beat the Hill City Howlers, scoring eleven runs on ten hits compared to the Howlers’ four runs on eight hits. Carson Lane fell to 1-1 in his 2.1 innings of work. He gave up two runs on one hit and two walks, striking out two. Keegan Zinn gave up an insurmountable six earned runs on six hits and one walk, striking out only four in 2.0 innings of work. Ryan Bilka gave up three runs, only one earned in 1.2 innings of work. A fielding error in the bottom of the sixth by the second baseman scored the two unearned runs. Manuel Osorio and Angel Perez both threw one scoreless inning to end the game.
The Howlers didn’t score until the top of the fifth with Pedro Dalmagro hitting a lead off double. Lucas Moore reached on a fielding error that allowed Dalmagro to score. In the top of the eighth, with two outs, Angel Abreu drew a walk and forced a pitching change. Jhorvic Abreus doubled on a liner to right to score Abreu. Pedro Dalmagro followed up with a solo home run for Hill City’s final runs of the game.
