Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick updated the media on player availability ahead of Sunday’s match at Old Trafford against Crystal Palace.
Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt were the focus as they both aim to return from injury with Carrick hopeful that Mount is likely the next reinforcement for an upcoming matchday squad.
“Mason is getting closer really,” Carrick said. “He’s on the grass and he’s getting closer, he’s looking to train and be in around it pretty soon.”
Meanwhile, de
Ligt is, “in the right direction,” but Carrick admitted that he’s not as far along in his recovery from a back injury. Considering Lisandro Martinez’s recent knock that forced him to miss the match at Everton, it’s a smidge disheartening to see key members of the backline out as United make their push for a Champions League place.
Those players returning alongside Patrick Dorgu will be a welcome sight with less than a dozen matches left on the schedule before the summer.
