As the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes prepare to travel to Washington for its first road game of the season, here are five things to know about the Huskies to get ready for the game.
Demond Williams Jr. is a sneaky Heisman candidate
It is early to start to project
Heisman favorites, especially with the injury to John Mateer of Oklahoma and other preseason favorites struggling to start the season, but if you make a list right now, it would be hard to go too far down the list before getting to Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr.
Williams has thrown for 778 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 74 percent of his passes through his first three games. He has also accumulated 220 yards on 34 carries and two touchdowns on the ground.
It is a long season, but a good game against the top team in defense in the country could be Willams Heisman moment.
The Huskies can score points
Through three games, the Huskies lead the Big Ten in scoring at 55.7 points per game. They also scored 59 points in the Apple Cup last week.
Quarterback Demond Williams has eight total touchdowns and running back Jonah Coleman has 10 touchdowns, including five against UC Davis. This will be one of the top tests for the Buckeyes defense all season.
However, they have given up yards through the air
To be fair, they have only given up just over 200 yards per game passing in the first three games. However, that was against Colorado State, UC Davis and Washington State.
Ohio State has the best passing game the Huskies have faced all season by a mile and they should be able to move the ball with Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate and Max Klare unless the Huskies can get pressure on Sayin and make him uncomfortable in his first road environment.
Ohio State can win this game by slowing down Jonah Coleman
As talented as Williams is leading the Huskies, Jonah Coleman is one of the best backs in the conference and in the country. He has ten touchdowns and 347 yards on 51 carries in three games this season. Coleman is averaging 6.8 yards per carry.
The Ohio State run defense has been pretty good all season, but this is the biggest test they have faced and one of the biggest of the season, along with Justice Haynes. Slow down Coleman and win the game.
The Huskies home winning streak is on the line
Husky Stadium is notoriously a tough place to play for opponents, and the Washington Huskies are holding onto a 22-game winning streak as the Buckeyes come into town. With it being their first road game and QB1’s first road game, the fans at Husky Stadium will look to impact the game in a major way like they normally do.
