Don’t you miss the good ol’ days? You know, when a player committed to your school and you could count on seeing them in that uniform for 3-5 years, depending on redshirt, professional dreams, etc? Much
like many other things about college sports today, those days are long gone. These days, it’s common for players to announce their return to school after each season.
With the transfer portal set to open next week, college football teams across the country are scrambling to retain the players they want to keep. The announcements are a coordinated effort from the schools and players to build some excitement.
This week, new head coach James Franklin and the Virginia Tech Hokies have been busy, with several players announcing their returns. Here’s a current list of players who have revealed their intentions on social media:
- Redshirt freshman cornerback Joshua Clarke
- Junior safety Jordan Bass
- Redshirt freshman wide receiver Chanz Wiggins
- Freshman safety Sheldon Robinson
- Freshman running back Jeffrey Overton Jr.
- Freshman cornerback Knahlij Harrell
- Redshirt junior offensive lineman Brody Meadows
These are the confirmed names. There will be others. The most anticipated names are RB Marcellous Hawkins, DT Kemari Copeland, TE Benji Gosnell, WR Ayden Greene, WR Keylen Adams, LBs Noah Chambers and Gabe Williams, S Quentin Reddish and CB Jojo Crim. Again, these are just some of the names, for one reason or another, that Hokie Nation would like to keep in Blacksburg. Hawkins and Copeland could be weighing NFL decisions. Several players from this list should have plenty of options elsewhere should they pursue them.
