A day before the official release from the conference, the three annual SEC opponents for the Texas Longhorns were revealed on Monday by On3 with no surprises for head coach Steve Sarkisian’s program —
the Horns will continue playing annual rivalry games against the Arkansas Razorbacks, Oklahoma Sooners, and Texas A&M Aggies.
The SEC is moving to a nine-game conference schedule starting in the 2026 season.
Texas reprised its longtime rivalries with Arkansas and Texas A&M after moving to the SEC last season while maintaining its annual grudge match against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.
The all-time series between the Longhorns and Razorbacks dates back to 1894 when Texas smacked Arkansas in a 54-0 victory and reached its pinnacle in the 1960s when Frank Broyles and the Hawgs beats the Horns in Austin on the way to the 1964 title and Darrell K Royal and Texas were winners in the “Game of the Century” in 1969 when the Longhorns brought the national championship back to the Forty Acres. Texas holds a 57-23 advantage in the series, which hadn’t been played regularly since Arkansas left the Southwest Conference for the SEC in 1991.
In a series that began in 1900, Texas and Oklahoma have played every year since 1929, three years before the Red River Rivalry moved to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, where it’s been played every year since.
Like the Razorbacks rivalry, conference realignment impacted the Lone Star Showdown between the Longhorns and the Aggies — after Texas A&M left for the SEC for the 2012 season, the two teams didn’t play until a 17-7 win by Texas last year in College Station. This year’s matchup in Austin is the first since 2010.
