The Wisconsin Badgers picked up a second quarterback in the transfer portal on Thursday, as Louisville Cardinals transfer Deuce Adams committed to the program after a visit, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Adams,
a former three-star recruit in the Class of 2024, was a redshirt freshman at Louisville this past season, completing 15 of 21 passes for 112 yards as the Cardinals’ No. 2 quarterback behind senior Miller Moss.
Adams started one game for Louisville this season, completing 12 of 17 passes for 94 yards in a 38-6 loss to the SMU Mustangs. He ultimately played in seven games across two seasons at Louisville. After entering the portal, the Texas native received interest from multiple programs, including the Michigan Wolverines and James Madison Dukes.
However, those visits were scheduled after Adams’s trip to Madison on Thursday, and the redshirt freshman ultimately committed to Wisconsin on his visit. The Badgers had been interested in several younger quarterbacks as they sought a second addition in the transfer portal, including Kansas true freshman transfer David McComb, who had visited Madison earlier in the week.
But, with one spot available, Adams was the choice, committing to the program first. He becomes the fifth scholarship quarterback for the Badgers in 2025, joining Colton Joseph, Carter Smith, Danny O’Neil, and incoming freshman Ryan Hopkins.
Joseph is the team’s projected starter after coming in from Old Dominion, where he was one of the country’s top dual-threat quarterbacks in 2025. Smith was the starter for Wisconsin’s final games of the season, and the Badgers were able to retain him after some conversations with the staff. He currently projects as Wisconsin’s No. 2 quarterback to start the year, with Danny O’Neil nursing his long-term injury.
Hopkins, a four-star recruit in the Class of 2026, will likely need some time to develop, so Adams currently slots in as the No. 3 quarterback with the chance to compete for the backup spot this season.
