After a strong start to 2025 against Nevada, Penn State took a step in the wrong direction in week two. A slow start against FIU and myriad offensive struggles felt a bit like déjà vu in the worst way possible.
Naturally, Nittany Lions fans were left scratching their head after the first half, which was only 10-0 in Penn State’s favor. The overreactions (or maybe just reactions?) were plentiful.
Still, despite the negative early energy, there was a lot to be excited about on the defensive side of the ball. Chaz Coleman and Dani Dennis-Suttion, in particular, looked very sharp and secondary surely did its job.
When the dust settled, it was hard to make sense of Penn State’s performance against FIU. A smooth 24 second-half points helped ease some woes, but it was hard to forget how gross the offense looked early on.
Still, Penn State was hardly the only college football team to struggle in week two. Teams like Clemson, LSU, Ole Miss, and Georgia were also victims of a lull, while Florida straight up lost to USF and Michigan had a poor showing against Oklahoma.
