Jonah Coleman is a bowling ball of a RB. He is listed at 5-8, 230 lbs on some sites. That is very CJ Anderson. During his career he carried the ball 37 times, between Arizona and Washington, on 3rd and short. He got a first down 26 times or 70%. He also had 119 red zone carries and he scored 32 of his 34 rushing TDs in the red zone. While he doesn’t have the extra gear to gain huge yards, he rarely gets stopped behind the line of scrimmage because of his vision and his balance. Only 17% of his 552
carries went for 10 or more yards and only 27 went for 20 or more.
He also had 12 carries on 4th down and he gained a first down on eight of them – 67%. Let’s compare this to Jeremiyah Love. Coleman is actually comparable to Love in 10+ and 20+ percentage and better on 3rd and 4th down runs.
Coleman was also used a fair amount as a receiver during his college career.
I think Coleman will be a really good addition to the Broncos if not only for his ability to pass protect. The automatically makes him the 3rd down back, but he has much better ability as a runner than Tyler Badie. I also decided to look at RJ Harvey’s college rushing stats. Those are below.
Keep in mind that RJH played against much weaker competition than either Love or Coleman.
