The 2026 MLB trade deadline has come and gone and now we’re left to take stock of where everything stands. The Phillies were active as expected, as they acquired Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian from the San Francisco Giants in addition to adding Brooks Raley from the New York Mets. In exchange, the team shipped out prospects Ramon Marquez, Marty Geir, John Spikerman, and Luke Gabrysh. Arraez and Raley are both rentals while Kilian is a 29-year-old with five more years of team control. Philadelphia also
swung a minor league trade that sent the recently designated for assignment Nolan Hoffman to Kansas City in exchange for Manuel Colon and cash considerations. Seth Johnson was also sent to the A’s in exchange for outfielder Colby Thomas.
Arraez’ elite bat to ball ability that has his .324 average the second best in baseball is certainly a different look for the lineup offensively, but defensively his arrival has resulted in the Phillies shifting three players out of their current positions, most notably moving Bryce Harper back to the outfield. The 29-year-old second baseman has seen a resurgence defensively at 2B after a poor 2025, but offensively he still doesn’t walk much (5.4%) and does not hit for much power typically despite a .440 SLG this year. However, Arraez’ proclivity for avoiding strikeouts is also among the best in baseball, as he’s only punched out 21 times across 105 games this season.
Kilian, a right-handed reliever, owns a 4.46 ERA across 45 appearances this season. He sports an impressive 27.5% strikeout rate but with a high walk rate of 10.4%. Kilian has limited MLB experience despite his age, as he made just eight big league appearances before 2026, but he does feature a big fastball that has averaged 96.8 MPH in 2026.
Raley is another reliever but one with a very different profile than Kilian. The 38-year-old is a soft tossing lefty that averages just 90.1 MPH on his fastball, but Raley has a 1.96 ERA across 45 appearances this year and is among the best in baseball at limiting hard contact. He figures to slot into the Phillies bullpen as the third left-handed option behind José Alvarado and Tim Mayza, with Kyle Backhus being the odd man out.
Marquez meanwhile is the biggest piece the Phillies moved, as he was their fourth ranked prospect according to Baseball America who has been rising in profile thanks to a strong season at Jersey Shore and Clearwater. In 12 games and 11 starts across the two levels, Marquez has pitched to a 1.68 ERA with 93 strikeouts in 59 innings. Gair is a big 6’6 righty with a 4.50 ERA across 30 bullpen appearances spanning low and high-A. Spikerman is a 23-year-old outfielder in high-A with a .759 OPS across 30 games. And finally, Gabrysh is a 23-year-old starter with Jersey Shore who owns a 5.14 ERA in 18 appearances in 2026.
