If any player illustrates Kentucky Football’s meteoric rise in Will Stein’s first season, it may be freshman wide receiver Kenny Darby.
Now, the rising star has an NIL deal with Nike, the latest breakthrough in what’s been a season of many for the Wildcats.
After following Kentucky offensive coordinator Joe Sloan from LSU to the Bluegrass— Darby originally committed to play for LSU— Darby has been a rock through eight games in 2026. Just eight games into his college career, Darby has 38 receptions
for 507 yards and three touchdowns. That’s an average of 13.3 yards per reception, which is tied with Henry Boyer for the team lead.
Darby’s 38 receptions are one behind Willie Rodriguez for the team lead, and his 507 receiving yards are the team lead by almost 200 yards.
Now just 13 receptions and 122 yards away from breaking Kentucky’s freshman receiving records in both of those categories, Darby is a cornerstone of a Kentucky offense leading the charge to a potential College Football Playoff berth in Will Stein’s first season as head coach.
You also have to like the fact that it was Kentucky, a Nike school, that announced his new deal. Hopefully, this will help the wideout land bigger NIL deals with the school for next season.
Kentucky is at Tennessee Saturday for a monster game in Knoxville. Tuesday night, we’ll find out where the Cats rank in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season. For Darby and the Cats, it may be a November to remember.
