Marcus Rashford is being tipped to star for Barcelona in El Clasico by Gary Lineker ahead of Sunday’s big game at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Manchester United loanee heads into the game fresh from bagging
a brace against Olympiacos in the Champions League to continue his recent good form.
Rashford is expected to start the match, due to Barcelona’s injury situation, and former striker Gary Lineker thinks he will do well.
“Marcus is a hugely gifted, talented player, and he has made an encouraging start,” he told The Athletic.
“Marcus can play anywhere across the front three, but he is at his best on the left of the attack. It always takes a little bit of time to get to know your team-mates. Given the injuries, he’ll be key for Barcelona in the Clasico.”
Victory for Barcelona will take Hansi Flick’s side back to the top of the table, but Lineker says it’s worth much more than that.
“Winning a Clasico is worth more than three points,” he added.
“In England, the classic six-pointer was about teams fighting relegation, but when it’s Barcelona and Real Madrid, the difference between winning and losing is vast. A victory gives you that springboard, the momentum for the rest of the season.”
Barcelona won all four Clasicos against Real Madrid last season and will aim to keep that run going on Sunday in the Spanish capital.
