This week, the community of Kansas City Chiefs fans at Arrowhead Pride was asked to share memories of the times Arrowhead Stadium was at its loudest.
Of course, the stadium holds the Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd roar at 142.2 decibels, but there are plenty of raucous moments in its modern history.
Personally, no moment will ever top the game-sealing interception that safety Husain Abdullah returned for a touchdown to beat the Oakland Raiders in Week 6 of 2013, maintaining an undefeated
record in head coach Andy Reid’s first season.
Holding a 10-point lead with under two minutes left, the Arrowhead crowd was just as hungry as the Chiefs’ defense, which ended the game with nine sacks and three interceptions. When Abdullah crossed the goal line, I’ll never forget it sounding like the ground-shaking roar had surpassed the maximum volume I could handle, truly becoming deafening. It reached a peak, and everything was quiet to me for a moment or two before returning to a typically loud cheer from the Sea of Red.
It was also one of the first seasons, for me, when the Arrowhead excitement felt real. As a sophomore in high school at the time, I was self-aware enough to know that Reid was in a different galaxy of head coaching compared to Herm Edwards and Todd Haley.
The energy at Arrowhead that season was proof of how revitalized Chiefs Kingdom was following Reid’s hire, which has turned out to be one of the best decisions the Hunt family has ever made in the franchise’s history.

Yep, also there for that game. My wife was pregnant with our first and she said he was kicking like crazy after that 137.5. I just choose to think he was cheering on the Chiefs as well instead of complaining about the noise.

I was at the record setting MNF game vs the Patriots back in 2014. It was the rowdiest I’ve ever been at a game by far. Might have even spilled some drops of beer on the Pats fans sitting in front of me…oops.

We went to the 2019 Chiefs-Texans Divisional Round matchup (the 24 point comeback). After we scored two straight TD’s to cut the deficit from 24-14, when Sorenson popped that ball out on the kickoff and it went into the hands of Thompson…ELECTRIC. The place felt like it was shaking, loudest I’ve ever seen Arrowhead.
It’s hard to beat this game for all-time Arrowhead memories. I still can’t fathom how much belief the players and the crowd had in that team, regardless of the score. Even at 24-0, all it took was a strong kick return by Mecole Hardman to regain momentum, and they never relinquished the lead.

I’m sure there’s been louder, but for me personally it was week 8 October 29, 2000. The rams were the defending Super Bowl champs and they were undefeated(7-0). It was loud af.

Recently, the late deep TD throw to Sammy Watkins in the AFC championship against Tennessee that sealed the trip to the super bowl. Place went absolutely bonkers (but could have been louder bc there was laundry on the field at the time of the TD and many worried it was going to be called back. Leave it to the refs to ruin a tremendous moment 🤣)
I argue though what was even louder in my memory was Dante Hall’s kickoff return for a 3rd qtr TD in the infamous no-punt game. However that was long enough ago that I might be misremembering.
The Watkins moment will always stand out to me as the Super Bowl-clinching play, when my Dad and I started hugging as tears welled up in our eyes.
Call me crazy, but you can hear the crowd yell “Sammy!” just before the ball is thrown, as we all realize he got open for a long touchdown.

I mentioned this in another thread just now. James Hasty pick 6 in overtime to beat the Raiders. Everyone was screaming and pounding the seat in front of them for the entire drive, and then it just exploded.

I was fortunate enough to have attended the game where Tamarick Vanover returned a punt for a TD to end the game against the San Diego Chargers…will always remember i was traveling back to Oklahoma and listening to the postgame and when they replayed the radio broadcast the crowd drowned-out the announcers to where you couldn’t hear their commentary
