BYU was dialed in on both sides of the ball early on and were never seriously threatened in a 44-13 win over TCU Saturday night in Provo. Bear Bachmeier had 285 total yards in the first as BYU went into
halftime up 27-10.
Bear had one of his best performances of the season, throwing for 296 yards, gaining 59 rushing yards, and one touchdown on the ground and one through the air. Bear completed 70% of his passes had zero turnovers. LJ Martin looked healthier with 88 rushing yards on 21 carries while Parker Kingston led BYU with 80 receiving yards. Tight End Carson Ryan had 79 receiving yards, including a 43-yard rumble to the endzone in the first half. BYU totaled 447 yards of offense.
TCU QB Josh Hoover came into the game with 2690 passing yards through 9 games, but BYU’s defense held him to 10/23 passing for 183 yards, 2 interceptions, and no touchdowns. Tanner Wall had a pick six to put an exclamation mark on the night and BYU’s defense racked up 4 sacks and 5 TFLs. BYU held the Horned Frogs to 298 yards of total offense.
BYU next hits the road to play 7-3 Cincinnati, who is 5-2 in Big 12 play after a 30-24 home loss Saturday to Arizona. The Bearcats were #25 in the CFP Rankings but will fall out before the game versus BYU. If BYU can get the road win, they have an outside shot at clinching a spot in the Big 12 title game next week or at minimum would ensure the season finale versus UCF would be a “win and get in” scenario or could be wrapped up heading into the game.
