It’s become increasingly likely that Tua Tagovailoa will be the opening-day starter for the Falcons when they face the Steelers. That is the last team he faced as the starting quarterback for the Dolphins back in December. While the conditions will be much clearer and the infrastructure
around him will be better, there are still plenty of questions surrounding the former Pro Bowler. His departure from Miami left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth across the organization and within the fanbase.
The Falcons will be facing five 2025 playoff teams in their first seven games. One of the biggest criticisms of Tagovailoa is his inability to lead teams to victories against playoff-caliber opponents. There was always a sense around his time in Miami that they were frontrunners who beat subpar competition, but fell well short against the top teams. Those past failures will raise conversations about how many games he will start in 2026, considering how challenging the Falcons’ schedule is in the first part of the season, especially once Michael Penix Jr. is fully recovered from left knee surgery.
