According to infamous Twitter huckster turned legit journalist over the summer indykalia (on CaughtOffside), Liverpool FC’s main attacking transfer target after missing on Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo
is Paris Saint-Germain’s 23-year-old French attacker Bradley Barcola.
However, the report states that a January transfer would be difficult, which makes me wonder what the short-term solution for Liverpool’s obvious lack of bodies in the attacking department would be.
Barcola had been linked in the rumour mill with Liverpool over the summer during the course of Luis Diaz’s exit, but PSG was apparently not open to the idea of a sale. The conditions for an exit had seemed possible at the end of last summer as PSG was extremely well-stocked in the attacking and wingers department, with Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Désiré Doué seeming like the preferred options.
Barcola has been involved this season, with 5 goals in 13 appearances to his name. However, Le Parisen is also reporting that Barcola has been stalling on signing a contract extension with the club, which could potentially open up the possibility for a move.
The player plays across the forward line, though primarily on the left, and would certainly go a long way in replacing much of the dynamism Liverpool have lacked since Diaz’s departure, bringing one-on-one ability, speed and pressing to the mix. Of course, one of Europe’s premier attacking talents will not go for cheap, and I would be surprised if the fee went below the €70-80m range.
