The Cowboys offense suffered another big blow in practice Friday as running back Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that will keep him out of Sunday’s game in New York and likely a lot longer.
Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones said on 105.3 “The Fan” on Friday that Davis had a “pretty serious” injury and could be out for a while.
“Unfortunately, I think he’s looking at a pretty serious injury that could take him out for some period of time,” Jones said. “We don’t have the final details, we’ll know more, but certainly so disappointed for Malik. Obviously tough for our team, but like anything it’s next man up.”

The fact the Cowboys extended both Spann-Ford and Flournoy on the same night is fitting. The two were both part of the 2024 rookie class. They share a trainer on the side. They both became pivotal players on special teams first before they rose the depth chart. Spann-Ford is now the team’s unquestioned second tight end. Flournoy is the team’s unquestioned third receiver heading into the season.

DeMarvion Overshown has battled his way through injury again, and he’s entering a contract year. He’s earned a very important role before the season starts, and that’s the Green Dot on defense.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer appeared on 105.3 The Fan ahead of Thursday’s practice, where he revealed that rising star linebacker DeMarvion Overshown has earned the green dot role.
Overshown prominently wore the green dot throughout training camp and the preseason, and will now carry those responsibilities into the regular season. For Overshown, it is a great opportunity to increase his stock in a contract year.
“It’s a process. Will there be multiple guys doing it? Overshown’s gonna be doing it quite a bit, but, again, with our different packages going into this game, we do have different guys that can do it, but D. Mo will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting,” Schottenheimer revealed.

With the unfortunate injury to All-Pro left guard Tyler Smith, T.J. Bass is being called to step up. The good thing for the Cowboys is that this isn’t unfamiliar territory for him.
The waters-run-still demeanor of Bass has always worked in his favor, as does the fact that, this time, he’ll be asked to step in at a position he has a lot of experience playing — from his days playing for the University of Oregon.
“Yeah, I’m pretty comfortable with it,” Bass said. “I’d say like left guard is a lot easier for me to step in. It’s a little more natural because that’s all I played in college so, going back to that, it’s a little more natural for me. I’ve been mostly at center throughout the camp because this is the first year I’ve really had to back up center, you know?”

Dallas has one of the best offenses in the NFL. After having one of the league’s worst defenses in 2025, they upgraded the unit significantly in the offseason, and that side of the ball holds the keys to a successful year.
“But I’ve said it also during the offseason that if the defense is better than they were a year ago — and I don’t know why I’m as optimistic as I am about the defense, I just feel like this defense is not only going to be better, I’m not saying they’ll be top 10 — but I think they’re going to be a group where people say, ‘Hey, this defense is good.’ Unlike last season. And if they are in that category, then in some ways it might be harder for the offense to be as good, even though they very well could be as efficient, if that makes sense. They won’t be playing from behind, the approach would change if the defense is better. But I think if the offense can go out and put the kind of points on the board that they did a year ago and the defense can make a few extra stops, then the sky’s the limit as far as what this team can do.”
