Maizy Agnello was just too eager to join the Mizzou volleyball team. After reclassifying and graduating in the Class of 2026, the 6-foot outside hitter will join Coach Dawn Sullivan’s team in the fall. She initially committed to Mizzou a little under two years ago.
Agnello is from Crystal Lake, Illinois, on the outer edge of the Chicago suburbs. She
played at Prairie Ridge High School, reaching the IHSA state finals in back-to-back seasons. Maizy set the single-season kills record in 2024 with 483, breaking the mark previously set by her mother. She averaged 4.8 kills and 1.8 digs per set in her three years with the Wolves. This led to Agnello being named to the Northwest Herald All-Area Team three times, the All-Fox Valley Conference Team twice and the Illinois Volleyball Coaches All-State Team.
In addition to her high school career, she competed with SkyHigh Volleyball on the club level. At the 2025 National Championships, Agnello received tournament honors and was named a Third Team All-American.
“Maizy is a fighter in every sense of the word,” Sullivan said in the MU press release. “Graduating early is just another example of the discipline, toughness, and heart she brings to everything she does.”
Agnello is added to an outside hitter room that is relatively young and inexperienced, joining three other underclassmen at the position. While she will likely be the youngest person on the Mizzou roster, this doesn’t mean she won’t be limited to the bench as a result. However, I would not be surprised if Sullivan and the rest of her staff makes the decision to redshirt her, especially with such a deep freshman class.
This now puts the Tigers at 18 players, the roster limit set in place by House v. NCAA. While it’s not impossible to circumvent this “limit”, I would be surprised if Sullivan makes any more additions before the season starts in August.
