The Seattle Seahawks may have released Trevon Diggs during the final roster cuts to make their initial 53-man roster, but he is still in their plans.
Seahawks general manager John Schneider told media after Sunday’s practice—yes, they still practice during that period between end of preseason and game prep for Week 1—that the plan is to sign the former Dallas Cowboys All-Pro cornerback to the practice squad. Given he had no training camp and just a quarter’s worth of game reps in the preseason finale
against the Kansas City Chiefs, this is no surprise.
Diggs is a vested veteran, so he does not have to go through waivers and is immediately an unrestricted free agent. Teams can start forming their practice squads on Monday, Aug. 31 (so, literally tomorrow) after the waiver wire period expires at 10 am PT. So for any surprise that Diggs didn’t make the 53, he’s likely to be on the 70-man roster for the early stages of the season.
And no, we don’t have a photo of Diggs in a Seahawks uniform that we can legally use. At least not yet.
