Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka became a nice, little footnote in the Bundesliga’s history when his 53rd minute volley ripped into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead (the Bavarians would ultimately win 5-0).
As it turns out, the goal was Bayern Munich’s 102nd in the Bundesliga this season, which set a new record for the league. When asked if he was aware he score the record breaker, Goretzka said that he was not…at least not at the time he put the ball into the net.
“Honestly no. I was told
that after the game. It was a nice goal and I’m happy. I already have a record for the fastest own goal in the Bundesliga, so it’s nice to get a positive record this time,” Goretzka joked (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It had to be a great feeling for Goretzka, who will leave the club as a free agent this summer. Now, he and the squad can focus on winning three trophies before this campaign ends.
