Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has taken on his first coaching role
and been announced as the new manager of Gulf United FC.The World Cup winner will now ply his trade in the United Arab Emirates and has explained his decision to take on the job.
Iniesta already has his A coaching licence and is currently studying for his Pro licence. The former midfielder says working at Gulf United is another important step forward in his career.
“Gulf United FC seems to me the perfect place to begin this new chapter,”
he told the club’s website.
“Football has given me everything and now I want to give something back, through training, education and daily work with young players who have the hunger and talent necessary to go far. I want to grow as a coach, acquire real experience and obtain the Pro License.”
Iniesta also posted an update on social media that read: “Very happy to be starting a new chapter in my life. An important step in continuing my development as a coach and putting my experience into practice at a professional club that truly believes in young talent. Thank you very much Gulf UnitedFC for this opportunity. Now it’s time to work with total dedication to achieve our goals. Vamos Gulf!!!”
Gulf United FC are known for their commitment to youth and currently have the youngest squad in UAE’s second tier. Iniesta has previously spoken of his desire to head into management after hanging up his boots and it will be interesting to see how he progresses in his new role.
