Be sure to follow along here for complete coverage starting tonight at 8 PM ET!
#1 Contenders Will Be Crowned
Some of the final Stand & Deliver puzzle pieces will fall into place
tonight when Jacy Jayne and Vanity Project learn who their #1 contenders are.
Lola Vice has been on a bit of a roll recently, reigning as the AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion with her partner, Mr. Iguana, and coming up with an emotional victory over Kelani Jordan in the NXT Underground at Vengeance Day. Her opponent will be the woman who relinquished the Evolve Women’s Championship a few weeks back so she could move up to the NXT roster, Kendal Grey. After successful title defenses against Sol Ruca, Zaria, and Sol Ruca and Zaria, Jacy Jayne will be keeping a close eye on this one to see who she’ll be defending her title against at NXT’s biggest show of the year. Will it be the former mixed martial artist or the former collegiate wrestler that prevails and earns a shot at gold on Saturday?
Vanity Project has been riding their own wave of success since winning the NXT Tag Team Championships off of DarkState last month. GM Robert Stone, who recently had his interim tag removed, arranged a tournament to determine new #1 contenders and that will conclude on tonight’s show. The Birth Right duo of Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo and Uriah Connors defeated former champs Hank & Tank in one semifinal, while Los Americanos defeated The Culling in the other. Will Birth Right continue to establish momentum by continuing their winning ways, or will Rayo and Bravo get one step closer to tag team gold?
TNA World Champion Returns, Teams with OTM
Two high profile NXT tag teams got themselves kicked out of the aforementioned tournament because they couldn’t stop beating the crap out of each other. DarkState, as Tony D’Angelo waged war against them, found themselves squarely in OTM’s crosshairs. Even with Cutler James reportedly out injured, DarkState still held the advantage in the numbers game until last week.
OTM recruited proud New Yorker and current TNA World Champion, Mike Santana to help even the odds. Santana, fresh off of retaining his title last week at Sacrifice when his match with Steve Maclin was stopped, now has Nic Nemeth and Eddie Edwards to contend with. He’ll take a detour from that chaos on Thursdays to compete in 6-man tag team action tonight on NXT. Will teaming up with a World Champion be enough to help OTM put DarkState behind them? Find out tonight!
Stand & Deliver Main Event Contract Signing
Joe Hendry’s been the NXT Champion for a little shy of two months, and he will get his first big test as champ at Stand & Deliver on Saturday when he defends in a Fatal 4 Way against Tony D’Angelo and best frenemies, Ricky Saints and Ethan Page. Two weeks ago, Tony D was the leader in the clubhouse after wiping out the other three competitors, including a vicious spear on Joe. Last week, as Ethan and Ricky double teamed D’Angelo after the Saints/D’Angelo match was thrown out, Hendry revived that stupid babyface trope where he comes to D’Angelo’s aide instead of allowing Tony to absorb more of a two-on-one beatdown. It ended up working out okay for the champ, as he was able to get his hands on all three of his #1 contenders, ending with a Standing Ovation on D’Angelo.
Tonight, these four men will sign the contract to make the NXT Championship match for Stand & Deliver official. Will this segment devolve into chaos, per usual WWE contract signing? Also, how will Ethan Page and Ricky Saints continue to passive aggressively sabotage each other this week?
Quick Hits
- After saving his LFG coach on Booker T. Appreciation Night, Jasper Troy has been heading towards a monster collision with Keanu Carver. Last week, after Robert Stone claimed no NXT officials would agree to ref a Troy/Carver battle, Josh Briggs volunteered to don the striped shirt for some reason. This surely won’t end well, but what will happen when these three big dudes are in the ring together?
- After defeating Thea Hail last week, Kelani Jordan looks to build a winning streak when she takes on Jaida Parker this week. These two have been a huge part of NXT recently and feel deserving of a spot on Stand & Deliver. Is this match tonight going to actually happen or is it just leading up to an actual confrontation between them this Saturday?
- Blake Monroe and Tatum Paxley have been exchanging horror movie-esque attacks the last few weeks. First, Blake emerged from under the stage and seemingly abducted Tatum after she defeated Izzi Dame for the North American Title. Then, last week, Paxley got a tip from kindred soul, Shiloh Hill, and found Blake Monroe in her own bathroom. A North American Title match between these two seems likely for Stand & Deliver. Will that match be made official tonight when the sneak attacks stop and Blake and Tatum meet face-to-face in the ring?
- After an emotional conversation last week, the inevitable showdown between Zaria and Sol Ruca was signed for Stand & Deliver. Video emerged online over the weekend of the two brawling in the parking lot at an NXT live event. With just 4 days before the biggest show of the year, will the former ZaRuca be in the Big Apple to get final shots in before their match this Saturday?
- Johnny Gargano returned to NXT last week and literally fell into a spot on the Stand & Deliver card, where he’ll face Myles Borne and look to become the first ever 4-time North American Champion. Will Johnny and Mrs. Wrestling find their way to New York or is Gargano already planking in St. Louis in preparation for Saturday?
All this and more on NXT Roadblock on the CW tonight, just 4 days before Stand & Deliver. Let us know what you’re most excited for on tonight’s episode in the comments below. Plus, be sure to follow along with the live coverage here on Cageside tonight, starting at 8 PM Eastern!
