Former Bayern Munich boss and President Uli Hoeneß had a relaxed stance over the controversy that erupted regarding Lennart Karl. Recalling a similar instance with a player from back in his days who also played at Bayern, Uli regarded such statements as a common thing that young players can tend to make.
To recall, the Karl had spoken to members of a fanclub in what he believed was a private meeting. While answering a specific question, Karl mentioned that aside from Bayern, Real Madrid was a club he really
looked up to and wished to play at some point in his career. Unfortunately for Karl, his statement was recorded and caused a whirlwind on social media, loyalty, Bayern’s status as a big club and plenty more.
The brass have remained level headed
The Bayern management and bosses did a great job to never let tempers raise and treated the incident as the actions of a teenager. Karl had reportedly even apologized in private to the bosses and the matter was settled. Following that, now former President and a godfather like figure to the club, Uli Hoeneß gave a similar take regarding this matter.
Speaking to Magenta TV (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Hoeneß gave a very clear and mature stand on how to deal with such incidents. “What he said about Real Madrid is something any young boy would say. Michael Rummenigge also said something similar back in the day. Young players can say something like that. They just need to be careful not to overdo it. Otherwise it’s not a problem at all” he said.
The older fans would recall Michael Rummenigge, the younger brother of the legendary Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. A super talented duo of brothers who were courted by other clubs in Europe. It is a pleasant thing to have the biggest figures of the club step forward and set a precedent to handle such PR disasters and make sure the focus remains on what really is important.
