The Associated Press released their WNBA awards yesterday. The headliners included Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson winning Player of the Year and Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve winning Coach of the Year. The bigger shock, at least in my opinion, is that no one form the Washington Mystics won any award on the list.
Mystics head coach Sydney Johnson is widely expected to be in the running for WNBA Coach of the Year after leading Washington to a 28-16 record with the league’s youngest roster.
In addition, one could make a case for Shakira Austin, Kiki Iriafen, and/or Sonia Citron to make the All-AP WNBA Second Team. However, none made it.
Despite the lack of Mystics players winning AP awards, the official WNBA awards will come out soon. And of course, the Mystics still have a playoff game to play tomorrow.
