We had noted last week that we’d likely see AJ Smith-Shawver rejoin the team during this week’s four-city road trip, and this has come to pass: not only have the Braves have recalled the 23-year old right-hander, he’s slated to start tomorrow’s Twins series finale. Chris Sale will shift to start the makeup game versus the White Sox.
AJSS back in the rotation, we all cheered. However, we still
have Walt Weiss on record sticking with Grant Holmes and musing on if AJ would be the one best suited for the bullpen. We hope it’s not true, but time will tell.
The corresponding move for Smith-Shawver is saying farewell to Tyler Kinley. The Kinley experience truly had its ups and downs, and now this chapter concludes with being designated for assignment. We’ll see if he’s another candidate for the Carrasco/Hernandez cycle.
