In case we even have to say it: Brad Underwood will not be leaving Illinois for — checks notes — Kansas State.
The Wildcats fired Jerome Tang on Sunday night in a strange turn of events, claiming the fire is “for cause.”
Now, of course, some parts of the internet are calling for BU to return to his alma mater at K-State. It won’t be happening.
As 247’s Jeremy Werner laid out, Underwood agreed to a contract that makes it very hard to leave Champaign.
But the bigger thing is: why would Underwood want to head to Manhattan? He’s built a pretty good thing with the Illini, reaching 20 straight wins for a seventh consecutive season. At 62 years old, does he want to start over and rebuild again? Probably not.
So forget about it. Whether you love him or not, Underwood will be sticking around Champaign for the foreseeable future.
