The Wisconsin Badgers had their starting quarterback for about six minutes on Saturday.
After starting the game and playing the first drive, Billy Edwards appeared to re-aggravate his lower-body injury on a 2nd & 2 incompletion as he looked to evade defenders rolling out. With pressure coming, rather than staying in the pocket, Edwards rolled to his right and experienced discomfort, coming out of the game after the play.
Sophomore Danny O’Neil, who had been in on first down for a read option, came
in after that and remained in for the remainder of the drive.
Edwards went to the stationary bike on the sidelines before heading into the medical tent for a short period of time. He remained on the sidelines in uniform, walking around but without his helmet for the remainder of the first quarter.
With Edwards out of the game, Wisconsin struggled on offense. O’Neil was sacked and intercepted on back-to-back plays later on that drive, which gave Maryland its first touchdown opportunity.
On the following drive, the Badgers quickly went three-and-out. They had some promise on their fourth drive of the game, getting three consecutive first downs. But, a botched snap on a direct snap to Dilin Jones went for a loss of 23 yards on second down, killing the drive.
At the moment, it does not appear that Edwards will return with his lower-body injury.
