The Virginia Cavaliers football team is ranked No. 19 in the latest AP Poll following their upset road win against the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday. After the ‘Hoos were ranked 24th last week, they
jump five spots in the ranking after moving to 5-1 (3-0 ACC) on the season.
Last week was the first time the ‘Hoos had been ranked in the Top-25 since 2019. That was also the last time the Cavaliers were in the Top-20, peaking at No. 18 in the poll. The team hasn’t been ranked in the Top-10 since 2004.
UVA is one of four ACC teams ranked in the Top-25. No. 2 Miami, No. 13 Georgia Tech, and No. 25 Florida State are the other three schools representing the conference.
Zero of Virginia’s remaining opponents (Washington State, North Carolina, Cal, Wake Forest, Duke, and Virginia Tech) are ranked or even received votes. Florida State (No. 25) and Louisville (received three votes) are the only teams UVA has played that fit that description, underscoring just how weak the Wahoos’ schedule is this season.
The Cavaliers have a bye week before hosting Washington State for Homecoming Weekend on October 18.
