The Madness of March isn’t just for basketball, as the No. 23 Aggies welcome the No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs to Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park for the first SEC home series of the season.
To start another five-game homestand, Texas A&M took on in-state foe Texas State in a midweek contest. On St. Patrick’s Day (Tuesday, Mar. 17), luck was on the Aggies’ side. A 4-0 early deficit turned into a 7-4 lead. The Maroon and White added two more runs in the seventh to help stay unbeaten in Aggieland with a 9-6
victory over the Bobcats. Caden Sorrell tallied two two-run homers on the day, pushing his season total to 11 HR and 37 RBI. Gavin Grahovac recorded a multi-hit game with two RBI to surpass 20 for the campaign. Five Aggie arms took the mound, with Gavin Lyons tossing 3.1 innings of two-run ball to earn the win. The final three pitchers, Juan Vargas, Ethan Darden, and Clayton Freshcorn, threw 4.1 scoreless innings, with Freshcorn collecting his fourth save of 2026.
Up next for Texas A&M (17-3) is a top-10 Georgia squad. The Bulldogs sit at 18-4 this season and won their first conference series at home against Tennessee, two games to one. Georgia swept common opponent Oakland in a four-game set the week before A&M won all three games against the Golden Grizzlies. As for that SEC opener, Georgia lost game one after a late-inning comeback by the Volunteers, then took the next two games. The series finale ended in dramatic fashion, as freshman left fielder Cole Johnson’s ninth-inning home run robbery sealed Sunday’s contest and the series victory.
Looking to bounce back after a 1-2 weekend against Oklahoma, A&M will have their hands full against the Bulldogs. The visitors have hit the most home runs of any Division I team this season, with 69 longballs in 22 games. Georgia also holds the nation’s top slugging percentage (.691) and eighth-highest batting average (.343). They’ve scored 229 runs, tied for second behind fellow Peach State rival Georgia Tech (256).
Individually, Daniel Jackson is the team’s pacesetter in home runs with 14, second in DI. The six-foot-two, 200-pound junior from Sandy Springs, Ga., has seen action at catcher and in the outfield this season, pairing fielding utility with his power.
The Aggies are not to be outdone by a high-powered offense, holding one just as potent. With the eighth-highest on-base percentage (.459) and ninth-best slugging percentage (.583), Texas A&M can hang with the best. On the bump, the starting rotation has combined for 79 strikeouts and captain a staff that holds a 3.95 strikeout-to-walk ratio, third in the country.
Even with a strong record, Georgia sits 97th in the Rating Percentage Index (RPI), a metric used to determine at-large and hosting positions in the NCAA Tournament. An argument can be made for Texas A&M being the toughest opponent the Bulldogs have faced thus far in the season, as the Aggies’ RPI is 14th.
The stage is set for the Aggies’ second consecutive top-25 conference opponent and an opportunity to get back to .500 in SEC play. A&M is 16-10 all-time against the Bulldogs, including 10-2 in College Station. Taking the series would instill confidence in a squad that won’t likely face a ranked opponent again until April. Note: Sunday’s finale will be televised nationally on SEC Network, the first of nine games in 2026.
