Every so often – pretty rarely though – a basketball player shows up who is so imaginative and gifted that fans are just dazzled. Most recently we saw it in Caitlin Clark’s rookie season when she took
the WNBA to a new level and drew fans in from all over.
Well, Caitlin Clark may have met her equal, and she does not come from where you’d expect her to come from, either.
We’re talking about Soraya Mohamed
, aka the Queen of Egypt. We’ll say this first: she may not be playing against the greatest competition in the world here, so bear that in mind.
That said, she plays like she grew up in Harlem, and it’s hard to imagine how she developed such absurd skills. The woman is an astonishing talent, not least of all her passing where her instincts might actually surpass Clark’s. She is a brilliant passer. Not outstanding, not superior – brilliant. And while these are highlights only, note this: her teammates are getting the ball exactly where they need it. Not everyone can do that.
At 30 or 31, she may be too late for a WNBA career and she might not be interested. However, it’s still fascinating to imagine her and Clark on the same team. It would be kind of like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird playing together on the Dream Team: everyone would enjoy it.
