A veteran of 85 NFL games has returned to Gillette Stadium to fill the open spot on the practice squad.
The New England Patriots officially re-signed cornerback Kindle Vildor to the 17-man scout team on Thursday after he had been released from the 53-man roster earlier in the week.
Vildor, 28, first made his way to Foxborough on a one-year contract as an unrestricted free agent in March. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound vested corner intercepted a pass in preseason action before beginning the regular season on the practice
squad. After serving as a standard elevation for the 29-26 AFC East upset of the Buffalo Bills, he was promoted to the active roster and earned a game ball from head coach Mike Vrabel following the 45-17 rout of the Las Vegas Raiders.
In all, Vildor has appeared in five games this fall while notching seven tackles, including one for loss, as well as one forced fumble and one pass deflection. His stay spans 53 snaps on defense to go with 32 snaps on special teams.
New England currently carries Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis III, Marcus Jones, Charles Woods, Channing Canada and Karon Prunty on the active cornerback depth chart, while the midweek re-signing joins Al’zillion Hamilton on the practice squad.
Entering the NFL with the Chicago Bears in the fifth round of the 2020 draft at No. 163 overall, Vildor has also made stops with Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A 27-game starter during his time in the league, the Georgia Southern product has recorded 147 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles and two interceptions through 2,158 snaps on defense and 605 snaps on special teams.
After safety Elliott Davison cleared waivers and circled back, one spot remained vacant on the practice squad.
The Green Bay Packers visit Gillette Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET.
