Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has said there’s simply “no debate” when asked about the Negreira Case after Real Madrid sent a dossier of information to UEFA last week regarding the Catalan giants.
The midfielder says that even if every match during the period in question was analyzed there would be absolutely no evidence found.
“From a purely footballing perspective, there’s no debate,” he told AS.
“The discussion hasn’t reached its conclusion, but even if we analyzed every match from that era, we wouldn’t
find even 1% of those alleged instances of favoritism.
“I never heard of, saw, or felt any assistance. In every match, fans and players alike witness favoritism shown to the opposing team.”
Iniesta went to add, in a separate interview with Mundo Deportivo, that all of Barca’s titles were won purely on merit.
“I don’t have much of an opinion because ultimately these are situations beyond one’s control, but all I know is that during that period we achieved everything through sporting merit, and anything that might arise off the field will have to be resolved elsewhere. What happened on the field is what happened,” he added.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are believed to have “convinced” themselves that UEFA will have to take action against Barca and have called for Europe’s governing body to work with the “utmost urgency” on the matter.
