While all the attention around the club at the moment is surrounding the goalkeeper dilemma between Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig, it appears as though someone else might be entering the discussion surrounding the future number one at the club. Young goalkeeping prospect Leonard Prescott might not be extending his contract with Bayern Munich, according to reports.
Prescott and the club have currently made no progress in the contract negotiations; the talks have been stalled for months. He lacks the prospect
of being able to become the number one in the long term. His contract only runs until 2027, as reported by Sky Germany’sKerry Hau.
It is a bit surprising to hear that the club has completely ruled out Prescott becoming a number one in the future. This news comes at a time where it seems the club lacks the confidence to establish Jonas Urbig as the clear number one in the future, despite all indications of his readiness.
There have been rumors of suitors for Prescott with no lack of interest, but it feels a bit early to write off Prescott at this point. If Neuer passes off the torch to Urbig after this season, Bayern could bring in a veteran such as Oliver Baumann or Bernd Leno to take a back-up role and allow Prescott to get gametime on loan in the short-term and evaluate his future.
While Prescott remains an intriguing question mark, it may look like he has his sights on somewhere else for the time being.
