Bayern Munich faced their Bavarian neighbours FC Augsburg away at the WWK Arena on Matchday 2 of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season. Following the midweek game at SV Wehen Wiesbaden where the team’s mistakes proved costly, resulting in two goals conceded, and amidst the transfer saga, there are far fewer questions of the team’s games and more of whom they’re bringing to bridge the deficits.
The Augsburg game temporarily (and only partly), brought the attention back to the team’s performance. When asked
about his thoughts on the game, captain Manuel Neuer primarily expressed his concerns about having conceded twice and about the team’s need to convert their chances. “Of course conceding twice is annoying, but I thought we created a lot of chances [to be winning comfortably],” he said, per @iMiaSanMia.
“We did a good job creating the chances, but we missed a lot, just like against Wiesbaden,” he said, referencing to the midweek Pokal fixture wherein Bayern maintained a major majority of the position and created multiple chances and yet could not capitalise on them, only making 22 shots of which only 15 were on-target. The fixture against Leipzig however, featured a very different level of Bayern performances, to which the captain brought attention — “We did well against Leipzig scoring 6 goals. We scored 3 today, which is not bad, but we should be doing better converting our chances,” he declared.
When asked on his plans for the international break coming up in September, he said he plans on “keeping fit, watching the games and doing private stuff with the family.”
Amid all of the transfer craziness surrounding Bayern Munich’s work with Chelsea over a loan deal for Nicolas Jackson, there was an actual game to be played — and Bayern Munich was up to the task even if a slow start and a midgame loss of focus might have given Die Fuggerstädter some hope.
