Nothing like a man of the match article coming off a blown 3-1 lead, a red card, and a missed penalty. What a great game. I missed this stuff so much.
After weeks of anticipation, Borussia Dortmund started their Bundesliga campaign by slowly grinding out a 3-1 lead before an 85th minute red card/penalty combo gave St. Pauli the spark they needed to comeback. One outside of the box curler later and it was 3-3, and Dortmund are officially out of the gate with two dropped points. I’ll have more to say
in my post-match.
Here are my MOTM candidates:
#1: Serhou Guirassy
Yes, he missed a penalty, but he scored a brilliant goal and his pass to play in Adeyemi for the penalty that he squandered was perfect.
#2: Julian Brandt
Brandt entered the game at the half and overall looked quiet, but the goal he scored was an absolute thing of beauty. He took a lovely touch to set it up for himself before lashing in a volley past the keeper.
#3: Karim Adeyemi
Adeyemi used his pace effectively to draw the penalty that Guirassy couldn’t convert. He almost assisted Pascal Groß on a ridiculous cobra backheel flick that found Groß at the back post.
#4: Pascal Groß
I can’t really tell to what extent his assist to Julian Brandt was intentional, but in the end it was an assist.
