So this one is out of nowhere… Barcelona have sent an official bid and are in talks with Borussia Dortmund for the signing of winger Karim Adeyemi, according to both Gerard Romero of Jijantes and Fabrizio Romano.
Barça are seemingly not done after signing Anthony Gordon and want another winger in Adeyemi, who missed out on Germany’s squad for the World Cup due to injury but has been a fixture of the German team over the last few years.
The 24-year-old finished a strong season with Dortmund with 10
goals and 6 assists and plenty of other contributions that go beyond the numbers. He is one of the fastest players in Europe and has improved his playmaking and finishing year after year, and he’s also — no surprise — a relentless pressing forward.
Adeyemi has already given his OK to the move and it seems like this could become reality sooner rather than later, with Barça working in silence with Dortmund to avoid any leaks just as they did with Gordon and Newcastle.
Beyond what Adeyemi’s arrival means for Barça’s depth at the wing position, which really suffered last season with Raphinha’s injuries and Marcus Rashford’s inconsistent performances, we have to wonder if Deco, Joan Laporta and Hansi Flick — who is apparently the driving force behind Adeyemi’s signing — know about potential exits.
Raphinha’s future has been in question for several weeks and his World Cup is now over, allowing him time to consider a potential move to Saudi Arabia. Could Adeyemi’s arrival be a reaction to something the club already knows about Raphinha?
Time will tell, but this is certainly a shock. What do you think of Adeyemi’s potential signing, Barça fans?
