I’m including Ranger Suárez in this series because a couple of the writers at MLB Trade Rumors think he could wind up with the Cubs.
And why not? Here’s a left-hander who fits the Cubs’ needs perfectly.
He’s been quite consistent over the last four seasons, even though he’s maxed out at 29 starts (2022). Over those four years he’s made 104 starts and posted a 3.59 ERA and 1.287 WHIP. He also keeps the ball in the ballpark, averaging 14 home runs per season allowed over that span, and his walk rate has improved over that time frame also — in 2025 it was just 5.8 percent.
Like a lot of the current Cubs staff, Suárez doesn’t throw that hard, instead getting by with a good selection of offspeed pitches:

The folks at The Athletic project Suárez for six years and $153 million. NBC Sports says five years, $135 million, which might be more affordable for the Cubs. MLB Trade Rumors has him at a bit less, five years, $115 million.
This article’s going to be brief. All the relevant info is above. Suárez would be a fine addition to the Cubs staff. Would you do it?
