The Cincinnati Bengals defense has been making it hard on the offense so far. As we start Week 2 of training camp, it is obvious that we are seeing far more of quarterback Joe Burrow under center. Something he did less than any other quarterback in the NFL last season.
On Monday, we saw a big reason why it hasn’t been used heavily for their passing game. The defense absolutely swallowed up the offense.

It is well documented that most of Burrow’s pass attempts come from shotgun. It would be nice to have it a bit more balanced so it isn’t a huge tipoff as to whether the team is passing or running. However, this kind of shows why it has not been a huge part of the passing game so far.
Also, Dexter Lawrence is absolutely destroying the offense.
Secondary has a day
The defense as a whole has been giving Burrow and company the business. You can tell Burrow has had a few throws he would like back, but the secondary has been doing one heck of a job. DJ Turner’s deflection against Ja’Marr Chase was simply a thing of beauty, and Battle is certainly making his case to start again.
First day of pads and fun highlights
This was the first day the team got to practice with pads. It separates the track stars from the football players. At least that is what they said in the old days. Now it feels like the track stars have taken over football.
