Forget what you heard. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are a good football team, and the loss to Miami wasn’t a backbreaker — it was a kickstarter.
Against the Canes on the road, the Irish were a 2.5 point favorite and lost in the final minutes via a field goal, 27-24. Halfway through the third quarter the Irish were down 21-7, and fought back to make it 24-24 until Miami finally got things going again on offense to make a 47 yard field goal to win the game. As desperate as things looked at times —
it wasn’t THAT bad, and Irish fans shouldn’t be jumping off the ledge just yet.
Next up for the Irish is the home opener against the Texas A&M Aggies. While we cringed at Notre Dame not running the ball enough against Miami, Texas A&M let UTSA run all over them in a win. Next up for Texas A&M is Utah State — so we might get a better sense of where they are before Notre Dame hosts them in South Bend on September 13.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Notre Dame is currently a 6.5 point favorite over Texas A&M with an over/under of 49.5.
