Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about Mizzou Basketball.
With no Mizzou events happening on Tuesday night, I thought it would be a good time to look at the fact that Mizzou Basketball has some big games coming up to determine its chance at a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
With the Tigers currently at 6-4 — and tied for fifth — in the Southeastern Conference, they have a serious chance at finishing in a spot to give them a great placement in the SEC Tournament, along with on the right side of the bubble.
Mizzou’s
next two opponents are Texas A&M, who sits tied for fourth in the SEC, and Texas, who is right on the bubble in bracketology with the Tigers.
These next two games could be a key indicator as to whether Missouri has a chance on not. It takes on the Aggies on the road at 8 p.m. Wednesday, then the Longhorns at home at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Even if the Tigers walk out of the week with one-of-two wins, they should still be in good shape to be in the hunt. If they walk out with two wins, they should definitely be projected on the right side of the bubble.
Our team over at Rock M Radio did a dive cuts piece last nice breaking it down further:
We have more discussion on football and basketball, diving into prospects, visits and PFF grades in the Rock M+ forums.
Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+
Per the latest bracketology projections, Missouri is trending the right side of the bubble — but barely. CBS Sports currently has Mizzou as the Last Four In — facing St. Mary’s in the First Four in Dayton.
Like I mentioned in my piece, these next few games are HUGE for Missouri’s chances.
Eli Drinkwitz has played in 30 one-score games over his 75-game career at Missouri, meaning 40% of Drink’s game are decided by 8-points or fewer. Pinkel had 58 decisions by one-score or less over his 191 game career (30.4%) and Odom had 13 over 50 (26%). So, yes, Drink plays in many more one-score games than his predecessors AND has a better record in such games.
Mizzou has had an exciting run over the past few years including some big wins, and some big losses.
Against South Alabama, she got in on the hitting AND pitching action, launching her first home run, and then also coming in in relief and pitching 4.1 innings of one-hit ball.
Super impressive Weekend 1 performance from Abby Carr. Check out Karen and my review for a deeper dive!
Respectfully, Mizzou currently sits at No. 61 in the latest NET rankings and No. 52 on KenPom. The Tigers are 2-4 in Quad 1 games and 3-3 in Quad 2 games — barely good enough to be on the right side of the bubble in some projections.
The Tigers are barely in bubble range right now but it feels like they keep making a stronger case every week. Not only are they racking up wins, their wins are racking up wins. This makes everything look a little more impressive from a resume standpoint.
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzou football discussion and basketball discussion with the offseason picking up for football, and SEC play in full motion for basketball.
From Rock M Radio: Before the Box Score
On this episode, Nate and Nathan discuss the current state of the program. They dive into the impact of the transfer portal, analyzing who Missouri has lost and what that means for the team’s future. The guys cover the challenges of rebuilding a roster, particularly with the quarterback, and the ongoing legal issues surrounding NCAA eligibility.
