Newcastle United’s summer rebuild finally appears to be moving toward incoming business, with Eddie Howe still needing attacking reinforcements after Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona.
According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Toure is set to join Newcastle for a massive fee of £43 million.
According to the report, Newcastle have reached an agreement with Hoffenheim and the transfer should go through in the next few days. The deal is also coming on the heels of Newcastle’s £100 million sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur, which was confirmed on Wednesday.
Toure’s fee, meanwhile, represents a club-record sale for Hoffenheim, with the 20-year-old expected to be announced as a Newcastle player in the coming days.
Before Plettenberg’s report, the Daily Mail also reported that Newcastle had emerged as the frontrunners to sign the Ivory Coast international with a deal on the verge of being completed.
Toure is primarily an inverted left winger, making him a straightforward option for Eddie Howe to replace Gordon’s left flank gap instantly. He scored five goals and added 12 assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season, while also featuring three times for Ivory Coast at the World Cup before their round-of-32 exit against Norway.
Toure is a fast and strong player already at his young age, can do well in one-on-one situations, and comes with some versatility as he can also play on the right or through the middle as a No. 9.
Welcome to Tyneside, Bazoumana!
